Terry's Key Moments
Terry joined Higgins as a Senior Project Manager bringing over 20 years industry experience. He kicked things off with the redevelopment of Uniting AgeWell's Preston Community, where he led our team through a complex demolition process. In 2019, we delivered the new residential aged care building, overcoming the challenges of a tightly constrained, boundary-limited site.
2017
During his time in project management, Terry also delivered Victorian University Secondary College's new Cairnlea campus, Camberwell Community Centre, Lauriston Girls' School's underground carpark and sports court, and Hanke on Tram NDIS accommodation.
2018-2021
After many positive contributions across project outcomes, staff development and client relationships, Terry was elevated to Construction Manager. In this role, he oversees all Victorian projects.
2021
Terry led our team to deliver Bass Coast College, a new VSBA school completed in just 10 months during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Terry describes this as one of the most challenging projects he has encountered.
On top of the COVID-19 complexities, the San Remo site presented unique challenges, including difficult ground conditions and unpredictable weather. “Trying to lift steel with gusting winds coming off Bass Strait is near impossible,” he recalls.
Despite these obstacles, Terry highlights what great teamwork can achieve. “The SJH team each performed their roles amazingly, which produced an outstanding product.”
2022
Amongst the first projects Terry oversaw as Construction Manager (and another Higgins award-winner) was the heritage restoration of St Church's Church for St Michael's Grammar School. "This historic church, which SJH transformed into a performing arts space, presented numerous challenges due to its 130-year-old structure," Terry explains.
"This project is one of my favorites because of the way our team brought together our consultants and our client to work through each complexity. The result was an incredible outcome that truly benefits the school and St Kilda community."
2022
Terry's exceptional project management of Bass Coast College San Remo was recognised at the Victoria AIB Awards where he received a professional excellence award, taking out the Commercial Construction $30M-$80M category. He then went on to receive a Commendation in the national awards, an incredible achievement.
2023
As a Director, Terry continues to play a pivotal role in driving growth and shaping the success of Higgins. His respected expertise and leadership of our construction team have been instrumental in fostering long-term partnerships, particularly with key government clients such as the Victorian School Building Authority and the Victorian Health Building Authority.
Terry's contributions have been critical in securing significant projects, including Kurmile Primary School, the Phillip Island Community Hospital, the New Schools 2025 Bundle A, Three Primary Schools Bundle, Orbost Regional Health Aged Care, Hastings Early Parenting Centre and mecwacare Ballan.
