Overview

Playful design meets intelligent innovation in the heart of Stockland's City of Colour.

In partnership with Stockland, Higgins brought the Aura Vision Centre to life, blending innovative design with practical building solutions to meet an evolving brief. This flagship project forms the heart of the growing neighbourhood.

Sited within Stockland’s master-planned $5 Billion Aura project, celebrated as the City of Colour, the new sales centre adds to its vibrant fabric, thoughtfully crafted to shape the visitor experience by encouraging patrons to explore and engage with its physical design. Signature elements include an orange-tinted glazing sky bridge, immersive audiovisual sales displays, and interactive media walls.

The sales floor features interactive displays that showcase Stockland’s vision for Aura. Among these, the standout is a 60-square-metre interactive wall. Its construction comprised double-height curved steelwork, enveloped in an opaque polycarbonate glazed system and illuminated by 25,000 LED lights for a dynamic light play. Motion sensors activate as visitors move past, casting an ‘aura’ around them.

A distinctive roof echoes the natural forms of the nearby Glasshouse Mountains, peaking at 9.5 metres. Raked ceilings reflect the roof’s complex angles, continuing the sense of scale internally. Few doors and large apertures ensure fluid movement throughout, while inserts such as twin mirrored copper blade walls, a 15sqm media curve, pendant lighting, and recessed seating define and enrich the space.

The centre also introduced a new home for the popular Mummy's Cafe, surrounded by landscaping with play equipment, passive areas through extensive paving, and a sky bridge with a viewing deck.

Aura Vision Centre is as a multifunctional space for potential homebuyers to relax during enquiries and negotiations. It’s also a beacon within the new community, providing a thriving gathering point for the locals and visitors.

Creative sales displays uniquely engage visitors by communicating the story of Aura. Visual tools encourage interaction, including a 60sqm motion sensor media screen that creates a person’s ‘aura’ as they pass by.

#

The media wall conceals a series of breakout spaces and staff amenities, including an office for Aura's sales team. On the upper level, beneath the raked ceilings which reflect the roof’s complex angles, sits a large meeting space and kitchenette.

#

A cafe, adventurous playscape and winding paved bike paths enhance the community centerpiece. The sky bridge and viewing deck offer sweeping vistas of the neighbourhood and nearby Glass House Mountains.

Process

What started as a conventional building project gradually transformed into a visionary placemaking initiative. Our client’s goals evolved significantly during construction. Through collaboration and adaptability, we expertly managed major design changes amongst our active program, allowing Stockland to fully realise the potential of their development.

Key Challenges

  • We adapted to significant design revisions during construction to meet the evolving project scope.
  • Leading an agile and collaborative team, we were adept at managing the complexities of evolving scope.
  • We formed the building’s ceilings with pre-finished acoustic plywood panels which were precision-cut off-site to suit the acute angles. Careful pre-planning and measuring was critical during installation to ensure the junctions aligned.
  • The east and west fascia walls were difficult to install in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines because of their angular nature and acute intersecting walls at high-level. We consulted with manufacturer representatives on-site to arrive at a suitable approach.
  • Our site was part of a larger urban development project where civil infrastructure works were underway. Through collaborative planning and engagement, we ensured uninterrupted access and smooth operations.

Project Outcomes

  • The centre is a vibrant, flexible work place for Aura's sales team, with a range of break-out spaces, meeting rooms and amenities.
  • Cutting-edge technology like LED walls, an interactive masterplan map and touchscreen display screens create an engaging and informative experience for prospective home buyers, unique to Aura.
  • The precinct provides Stockland with an open space to host festivals and major community events.
  • The project created a new permanent home for the bustling Mummy's Cafe. Mummy's, an Aura favourite, moved from a shipping container to a spacious fitout with covered outdoor seating and convenient playscape access.
