Overview

Abandoned lot transformed: quick-service dining hub sparks urban revival.

Higgins’ enduring partnership with Collins Foods delivered KFC and Taco Bell Coorparoo, a new fast food precinct in the heart of a bustling inner-city suburb.

In a prime location on Old Cleveland Road near Coorparoo Square, the free-standing stores maximise space on a modest site, both including dine-in and drive-thru options and a shared car park.

Managing our site through construction required careful synchronisation because of its confined boundaries, its situation along a high-traffic thoroughfare, and its proximity to another active construction site. Our available working area became more confined as the structures came together. Surrounded by two buildings, external awnings, a driveway, and a car park, our team relied on proactive planning to reduce congestion and ensuring efficient workflow.

Our construction program kicked off from prepared pads and included internal fit-out works. We crafted each tenancy from a cohesive palette of finishes and fittings, unique to the iconic brands. The pedestrian awnings safely welcome patrons, direct drive-thru traffic and act as a key branding motif.

At the rear of the site, we installed a 4.5-metre-high timber fence, which functions dually as a visual and acoustic shield for the adjacent residential properties. To revitalise the street frontage, we undertook extensive hard and soft landscaping, converting the previously unoccupied lot into an inviting and vibrant space.
